Subjects & Subject Options

Beginning in Second Year all students in St. Colman's study the following core subjects to Junior Certificate level:

Irish, English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, C.S.P.E., S.P.H.E., Religion.

Pupils take three other subjects to Junior Certificate level. The pupils are given the opportunity to state their subject preferences and based on this research, the subjects are arranged in blocks. For example, in a recent school year, which began in September, each pupil had the opportunity to select one subject from each of the three blocks:

Block 1: Art or Music or Technical Graphics

Block 2: German or French

Block 3: Business or Technology.

Note- these blocks may change from year to year depending on student preferences.

Each pupil is given every opportunity and encouraged to take Higher Level in all subjects in the Junior Certificate Examination.
