The 2016 running of the annual St Colman's College, Fermoy 5k run/walk proved to be another runaway success. Out of the 350 starters, East Cork AC's Frank Hayes came home first to claim victory in a time of 16:49. Second went to James Murphy of Bride Rovers (17:20) while JT Ryan of Moore Abbey Milers took third (17:57). First student home was Kieran O'Donovan from Araglen and winner of the ladies category was Doneraile's Mei Ming. Well done all. This year's event featured chip timing for the first time ensuring accuracy and a record of the time for each competitor. Entrants set off from the start line in the picturesque setting of St. Colman's sports grounds in good weather conditions, perfect for running. They followed the usual route up Cork Road, across Glencullen, back Duntaheen Road and finished with one lap of the St. Colman's health walk. Demanding, but enjoyable, was the general consensus on the route which attracted serious athletes and students as well as casual joggers and walkers. Refreshments were laid on in the college pavillion afterwards by the St Colman's Parents' Association and all proceeds raised by the event go to support the upkeep of the St Colman's sports facilities. St Colman's College would like to express sincere thanks to all who supported the run and all who helped in the organisation of the event especially  Fermoy Municipal Town Council and the Gardai. Thanks also to the many students, staff, parents and club members who ensured that the run went off in such a streamlined manner.
