Carrig na bhFear athlete Jamie Buckley on his way to victory in the inaugural St. Colman’s College 5K run.
Carraig na bhFear athlete Jamie Buckley came home a very convincing winner of the inaugural St. Colman’s College 5k run held in Fermoy on May 14, 2015.  Jamie’s posted time of 16:44 was well ahead of the pack on a fine evening ideally suited for running. Denis McCarthy took second place while Evan McGrath was third. The first woman home was Joan Ennis and the first St. Colman’s student was Shane Hurley in fifth place. Starting and finishing in the impressive St. Colman’s College sports grounds, the 5k event was organised and run in a very streamlined manner. A huge crowd of walkers and runners took part and full advantage was taken of the open green space to include the final kilometre on grass before a sprint to the finish. As well as a competitive sporting event the St. Colman’s 5k run / 2k walk was also very much an inclusive community event, attracting young and old. The St. Colman’s Parents’ Association provided tea, coffee and food for the assembled masses after the run and student group ‘The Drive’ provided musical entertainment.  Winners all round you might say!
